Top 5 ways to say thank you

by Betty Lochner on October 18, 2010

Part of embracing gratitude is learning to give it regularly  and freely.  If you are looking for some ideas to say thank you beyond just saying it, here are my top 5 ways to get a little creative and personal.

1.  Make a thank you card and write a brief note.

It doesn’t have to be fancy or expensive.  Just taking the effort to give something hand made is huge.

2. Remember a birthday, or other milestone.

People love to be remembered, especially by someone they don’t expect to hear from.

3. Give a small gift.

Try to make it personal, such as a favorite candy bar, flower,  or coffee drink.

4. Say thank you publicly.

Go to the effort to say thank you in front of their peers, or better yet, their boss.  Don’t you wish someone would do that for you?

5.  One word: Food

This one is my favorite.  Everyone loves a treat. Bring in some chips and salsa, cookies, brownies or other treat for an individual or group.  Add a simple note like “you rock” or “thanks for all you do”. Even  better, be specific about what you are grateful for!

These 5 simple ways to say thank you can be huge morale boosters at work and at home!  Try one and watch what happens. Then make a plan to implement at least one idea with one person each week!

Saying thank you often is a small effort that will make a big difference in your relationships.

What’s your favorite way to say thank you?

Good List, Betty. A hint I learned—If a person lived through the depression food continues to be the overall way to make a hit with a thank you. This type of thank you assures that you will get huge smiles the next time you see them.

Thanks, Rachna – sometimes it’s the small things that make a big difference!

Hello Ma`am,

Reading about 5 ways to say thank you was a welcome change from all the usual stuff I had come across on the net stating different ways of saying it verbally. I personally am a little uncomfortable saying Thank You but reading this blog has helped me a lot.
Only yesterday I wrote a thank you note for a friend of mine and gave it with a box of chocolates. She was touched.

Thanks Ma`am. Hoping to follow more such work of your`s in future.

Best wishes,
